The MDG Awards. A Global Campaign to Engage the World
Rupani Foundation is a proud sponsor of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's) Awards.
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), as formulated by the United Nations in 2000 and agreed upon by every member state, represent a global partnership to impact the challenges facing the world.
Responding to the world's major development issues and to the calls of civil society, the MDGs promote poverty reduction, education, maternal health, gender equality, and aim at combating child mortality, AIDS and other diseases.
The goal is for the MDGs to be achieved by 2015. This can only be done if all participants work together and do their part. Poor countries have pledged to govern better, and invest in their people through health care and education. Rich countries have pledged to support them, through aid, debt relief, and fairer trade. Globally, thousands of organizations and business institutions have pledged to make a contribution. Much has been accomplished, but much more needs to be done.
How is the Rupani Foundation helping to make a difference?
The Rupani Foundation is working with a wide range of partners to help create coalitions for change to support the goals at global, regional and national levels and to benchmark progress towards them. We are particularly excited to be a primary sponsor of the MDG Awards. A global series of high profile events are planned, supported by an interactive humanitarian networking website that are designed to not only engage, but to entertain and reward the public for participating. Under the leadership of the 61st President of the United Nations General Assembly, the MDG Awards launch event will take place at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in February 2009. It is anticipated that the MDG Awards event will eventually be viewed by more than 1 billion people. But more importantly, it is estimated that more than 35 million people, 1000 corporations and 2000 NGOs will become active participants on the MDG Awards humanitarian networking website, and each and every one of them will be making a difference.
Rupani Foundation will be represented by its Founder and Chairman Mr. Nasruddin Rupani at the official launch of the MDG Awards ceremony on September 12, 2008 at the United Nations in New York City. The morning program will include a panel presentation with the Nobel Laureates live from Norway, as well as an international press conference.
